Why join the PTO? What if you could help your child enjoy school more while getting better grades and minimizing behavior problems? Research has shown that being involved in your child's education can help children do better in and out of school. Parent involvement can be as simple as helping with homework, reading together or asking about their day. The more involvement, the better. You don't have to be the president of the PTO but taking the time to volunteer for as well as attend school events does make a difference. If your actions show you value education, chances are your child will too. Click Here to download the PTO membership application. Here are just a few reasons why you should become involved:
Improved Education
Parent involvement can help to improve the overall quality of schools, raise teacher moral and improve a school's reputation in the community. Involved parents gain the respect of teachers; as a result, teachers have higher expectations of their children. Involvement pays off in the long term. Children stay in school longer and are more likely to continue their education after high school.
Better Behavior
Children develop better social skills and show improved behavior when their parents are involved at school. Studies have also shown that children are less likely to skip school, less disruptive in class and more likely to do homework when parents are involved.
Increased Confidence
When students feel supported at home and at school, they develop more postive attitudes about school and have more self confidence. They place a higher priority on academic achievement. Children of involved parents are more likely to feel that they are accepted, included and respected at school.
Parents Benefit
involved parents become more comfortable in the school environment, gain confidence in their parenting skills and feel more capable of helping their children learn. They are also more likely to continue their own education.
Higher Grades
Studies have shown that becoming involved in your child's education helps them to get better grades and have higher test scores.
Developing New Friendships
By becoming involved and attending after school PTO events you and your children get to meet new people outside of their immediate classroom.
